on my gooseneck coming off my engine, theres my temp sensor and something else... can anyone tell me what it is? it kinda looks like a 2 ported PCV valve, but it obviously goes into the coolant...

 

What year car and type of engine? Pretty safe bet it's a temp controlled vacuum switch. Common on older cars to control the EGR valve I think but could be different on later engines.

 

1985 and it's a 305, that's all I know. When I got it there was a Holley 4 bbl sitting on it. It's a z-28 if that helps narrow it down. Do I need it? I mean it can't be TOO important because it isn't hooked to any vacuum lines or anything as of now. I guees my real goal out of this question is to pull off that ugly gooseneck with crap coming off the top of it with a plan one. I'm thinking I don't need my temp sensor.
