really im building more for the street, it wont see the drag strip to much, maybe once or twice just out of curiosity. im contemplating building a carb'd 350 or an lt-1 swap but im not sure, nore am i shooting for a specific number....hell id be happy with 300
Then stick with the 10 bolt. I'm sure some here will argue that point, but the 10 bolt can and will stand up to a little more than its given credit for. Need proof? I'm right around the corner from you and I'm going high 10s/low 11s on a 10 bolt.
If I were you I would swap in a complete with brakes 10 bolt from a 98+ car. You'll get a stronger housing, a limited slip differential, and if you get one from a 6 speed car, you get 3.42s as well. If your car originally was equipped with front disc and rear drum, you can reuse the stock master cylinder and combo valve with the LS1 rear disc setup.

4th gen rear with a 3:42 & disc brakes is a bolt on. However it is 4" wider overall then the 3rd gen one and you can not use the stock wheels. Also, NOTHING is a direct fit on a 3rd gen car. You always will be fabbing something up to make it work. Good luck
if you do some hunting you can find all the parts out of third gen cars to make what you want---90 -92 has 28 spline axles instead of the 26 that you have then 28 spline posi or locker w/3.42's good for street and strip,if you get axles out of drum rearend i think you just have to grind alittle material off to get rotors on just take your time to find right combo and you won't spend too much cash for your bolt on
The other option is a 85-89 9-bolt rear end, but the good ones are very hard to find and parts are getting scarce.
And only some 16" stock wheels "fit"
Put a good set of gears (Richmond) in it,as well as a posi/locker. Then find someone with a decent welder and have them weld a bead around where the axle tube goes into the center differential.
Marc,I never knew your car was that fast! Whats in that sucker??

I'm running a 10 bolt in both the cars in my sig. The 85 Z28 runs mid 12s, while the 00 TA recently went high 10s, both NA. The Z28 has a budget/economy minded 355, and the TA has an aggressive H/C 346 setup. Both cars are full weight autos and run well for the mods because the combos were well researched
