What Sized Throttle Body would be best for my 305?
What Sized Throttle Body would be best for my 305?
I've decided for budget reasons just to keep my current engine and slowly build it up. One of my first planned mods was a new throttle body. What size should I get? And how much power can I expect from one? And last but not least which brand should I go with? I'm looking at Edelbrock but if there's a better product out there i'll look at it. Thanks guys.
305 TBI........and i'm not looking at Forced Induction i'm going N/A. So seriously how big do I need to go. I've decided on Edelbrock and when I get a definite size i'll order it and go from there. Thanks guys I really appreciate it.
The stock TBI is capable of up to ~250 crank hp. I have 213 rwhp out of mine, but under full throttle a vaccum begins to develope above 4000 RPM. I figure that this is because that the engine wants more air but the throttle body has hit it's limit.
If you are looking for a throttle body Check out BBks you can find them VIA summit racing

Stick with your current one and get a better flowing intake. The current stock set up will feed you well enough air and fuel for your 305. Get the better flowing intake or headers and you'll be much happier with the results.

Edelbrock makes a nice TBI intake manifold.
Once you step up to a 350, there are a couple manufacturers out there who make the 650 cfm throttle body for TBI. I cant think of their names right now but I'm sure some TBI guys will chime in. For a 305, the stock throttle body is fine.

The stock TBI's bores are 1 11/16 inch diamiter. Holley makes a TBI with 2" bores but the injectors suck. GM 454 tbi's are also have 2" bores. There are others that can port the stock TBI, but I cann't remeber those at the moment.
I wanna keep my 305 even though it's been acting up recently. It'll start right up sometimes but others it'll fire then die and when I fire it up again I have to rev it to keep it running. Sounds to me like a Starter Problem. And I really hope that's all it is maybe y'all could help me out with that as well. Another theory of mine is that the fuel system just needs an extensive cleaning. Maybe my injectors are clogged who knows but I guess i'll have to play with it and find out.
