Who is this guy? How much and how custom? Is he going to just burn you a chip for the car based on your mods? When I had mine done, Lingenfelter drove the car and had his assistant take readings, burnt the chip and redid the driving. Someone else I know will strap in on the dyno and do it and someone else would take engine readings and do it. Bottom line is it takes more than one shot unless that person is real lucky.

the guy is a friend of a friend......custom as in not from any of those mail order places......Yeah I assume he is just going to go by what mods I have done to the car as I dont have any way of recording any data for it and dont have and have no idea how to burn my own.
But I will purchase the cable so I can record data with one of those programs and then I can just bring my chip back and have him burn it from the data I have.
With that said I assume the chip will be better than using the stock chip..right?

Yes, it will be better but not perfect. BTW, when I dropped my car off to LPE, they had cut a hole in my header, welded a bung and used a second O2 sensor to get readings just to fine tune the thing to make it perfect.

They were probably using wideband O2 sensor to get the best readings from the car.

Whatever he did, it worked out just fine. It took a week for them to get it right. I'm sure the actual work time was a lot less.

it's true that the best way is to have the car in hand so you can make changes on the fly...or as close as possible with our damn computers. all engines can benefit from a proper tune but i don't really see anything in your list that requires a major overhaul. maybe just going through the stock program changing slight things here and there which should still make a slight difference.

this is a big reason why mail order chips are a problem as everything is different with each motor and it really should be handled with the car on site. there are some very interesting pieces of equipment that are just coming out though that will allow those who know what they are doing to alter the chips while driving which will cut tunning time down on our cars a great deal.

good luck with everything, i hope it works out for you.

You can use the ACCEL DFI system and all you need is to have your laptop plugged in and you can go from there.

I've been considering this route for a little while. Basically you plug a "prom simulator" into the prom socket of the ecm. The simulator connects to a laptop, and from that point on the ecm reads values stored on the laptop. This means you can make running changes and immediately diagnose their effect. When you're done you need to burn only one prom.

Guess, when the new motor is done I'll look into it again. Should tie me over until I can afford the FAST controller I really want.
