What are my options to change my car's sound?

I want to mod my ewxhaust to sound slightly louder but alot tougher. This may be hard to do since I have a V6 instead of a V8 (I may do a swap though). Anyway, is there anything I can take out of the stock exhuast that will make it slightly louder and deeper. I still need to pass emissions and not get pulled over though. I don't want it to be rediculously loud. I am not really on a budget, but I edon't want to dump hundreds of dollars to slightly change my sound, so what would you guys reccomend doing? Thanks.

Flowmaster makes a catback system that will sound really good plus improve h/p and is still emmissions legal.

Although I'd never recommend a Flowmaster to a V8 owner, I would recommend it in your case. They tend to sound decent on the V6's.

I am going to order from summit racing. I just found out my muffler got loose on the highway today. Now one exhaust pipe is like 2 inches lower than the other. I need a new one right away. I am getting a flowmaster I suppose, since they are only $75. I am getting new chrome tips now too. Thanks alot for your help. I really appreciate it.

One last question. Will the flowmaster be really loud? I want it to be a bit louder than stock, but nothing rediculous that you can hear a mile away. I want mostly a tough sound rather than a loud and obnoxious one.

It will be louder, no doubt about that. My sister's 94 Firebird with the 3.4L is as loud as my car at idle. All she has is just the muffler and a high flow cat. You CANNOT tell the difference between it and an LT1 at idle. I've fooled several people with it, most of which know what an LT1 sounds like. Off idle though, it will still sound like a V6...

Last time I was at my buddys muffler shop a kid was having dual Flowmasters installed on his V-6 Stang, it sounded a lot like a V-8 at idle but as soon as it was revved up that typical 6 banger sound came out of it.

The guy at the shop had me drive it for a night without any tailpipes. It vibrated the car and was extremely loud. It sounded awful too. I went back the next day and had the tailpipes installed and now it sounds tough. The guy that installed it asked me why I would want to do that. He also hates flowmasters. My car sounds better, has better performance and is slightly louder , not rediculously overbearing. I don't know what his problem was, but I just paid him alot of money so he shouldn't argue with the customer.
