Question What makes the tranny fluid flow???

I have a 700R4 and for some reason it doesnt seem to be getting fluid pumped through the trans. What pumps the fluid and where is it located?

A pump pumps it. Located inside near the front of the trans.

Do I need to pull the trans to get to it? Anyone have pics of it?

You definately need to pull the trans to get to it. I've actually never seen a pic of it either now that you mention it.

The trans MUST come out. The front pump is in the bellhousing. The torque converter engages it. You'll know it when you see it.

Will it make a rattle noise when it starts to go bad? I had rattle that I thought was comeing from my TC, but maybe it was comeing from the pump.

If the gears crack it can definitely cause a rattle, and you'll have no tranny fluid pressure which means the trans will go up in smoke QUICK. The front pump isn't hard to change....once you get the trans out and take off the torque convertor you'll see it right there in the back of the bellhousing. It has like 7 or 8 bolts holding it in. Just pull it out and put a new one in and be very careful to make sure it seals up good. Also be careful when putting the convertor back in because if it's not back all the way and engaged with the pump it will tear up the pump when you tighten the trans to the engine.
