what do i need to get into the low14's
i have an 89 irocz with a 350 and i have ran it a couple of times and the best i could do was a 15 flat, the engine is pretty much stock except for my flowmaster 3 inch catback, and i got some bbk underdrive pulleys on the way from jegs, what are some other mods i could do that wouldn't clean out my bank account but shave some time off my quarter mile time?
Thanks to all who respond!!!

What kind of 60ft was your run on, spinning alot off the line?? What MPH did you trap at and whats the elevation where you race?? Low 14s should be easy in correct tune with minimal bolt ons and/or tire depending on your elevation. Im spoiled as I run at sea level at either track Ive been at.
In my 89 Iroc with 350 I did it this way.
Weight reduction. (Took out back-seats etc, back carpet, stereo, etc.)
No air-filters (not good, but not too bad at the track.)
Exhaust cutout.
Ran a 14.5 @ 96.

A friend of mine ran his 87 350 tpi TA for a 14.9 @92 with a 2.0 60ft. His car only has a chopped cat and K&ns. I would recommend getting some headers, some nittos and you should be right there. I cant wait to make some new passes and get a new best this spring.
i was running 13.9 and 14 flat all day with a full exhaust, CAI, and good tuning on street tires. very low 13's with a 75 shot.
most of the "stock" 350's that were with me were running 14.4-14.6 with nothing done at all on bald street tires.
i would recommend some sort of healthy breathing air intake and definate set of headers. if the engine is tuned properly and running decent for it's age with these goodies you should be at very low 14's with ease. 15's timeslips are more evident of 305's.

In my 87 Iroc 350 I run 14.8s at about 500FT above sea level
Normally my 60ft times are 2.0s
& at a track that is at sea level I run about 14.6s-14.7s (depends on how well my car is acting that day)
All I have done to my car is Changed the chip to a Hypertech stage 2 & Added K&NS to her.
Late last season I did cut out the bottom of the air box because I am going to start running a Ram air system.
Edit: OH I am running on total street tires. When I get the money together I am going to be getting headers, catback & muffler.

Another vote for tires and headers, headers being the BIG thing. Tuning might help weather you need more timing or fuel pressure. Maybe just some more susupension work. But headers do miracles for F-body's, especially 3rd gens for they came VERY restricted from the factory.

SLP 1 3/4 headers did nothing for me as did their customer service but thats another thread. I vote converter, cooler and tires(about the same investment even a little less). Try cutting sub 1.80 60fts and see how that effects your ETs

Mods for my car are in the link in my sig...
But I ran 14.52 on a 1.969 60ft and had to lift just past the 1/8th mile due to trans problems. My car was basically stock with a converter, exhaust, and a custom PROM. I am going to have some new numbers soon now that I have a reliable trans to keep it going down the track. Hoping for high 13's, and now I have a 2000 stall rather then the 2500 that was in there.
I think that the biggest improvement in these cars is airflow. If you can get more air in and out of the engine it will make more power. All of my mods are minimal but they add up and work.
