What to do to a 350?

Ive recently been looking into an LT1 for my 3rd gen, but have discovered that a 350 TBI would be more practical. If I come across a short block, I plan to clean it up, then put it on a stand. This is where the fun begins. If you were working for minimum wage, and trying to build up a 350, what would you do with it? I haven't even got a block yet, so I'm just searching for ideas so I can keep them in mind when I do begin this bad boy. Keep in mind, I wanna go fast!

Heres my plan for my 350 tpi. Buy a new 383 block and rotating assembly and keep the rest of the engine ie heads intake etc stock for the time being and as i get money over the next few years upgrade piece by piece until the engine is completed. Obviously along the way youd have to upgrade fuel delivery systems, cooling systems, ingition systems etc as necessary not to mention worrying about blowing out your drive train because of all that power not to mention my car doesnt even work right now as stock. I work for like 40 cents above minimum wage a few days a week while being in high school while playing rep sports.....not enough hours in the day and not a good enough chance of winning the lottery (i decided i want to win 28 million dollars....government taxes half of it but im still left with 14 cold hard cash and id be set!). Wow i gotta stop posting tonight i am just rambling. Use my engine build up plans as you may and good luck with the financial situations

roflmao i just noticed that at the bottom. No offence man but dont we all however there is a direct corelation between how much money you have and how fast you go.

Holy ****.

My '78 Nova 4dr with a 91k mile 305, 2bbl carb, TH350 trans and 2.41 open rear end will run a 16.9.

How much does your car weight? You out gear me by a ton, you should be going quicker IMHO.

The first thing you might want to try is a tune up.

Vortec heads are what you want then, stock TBI heads are junk. The swirl port design restricts airflow unbelievably. I would also recommend a Comp 276HR-14 (276/290-220/230-.510/.510-114). A lot of people on here will tell you it is to big. They can say what they like I have driven an '87 IROC-Z 305 TPI with one and a '91 RS with a 350 TBI and they both run good.

The '91 RS would be the car to follow, I helped my buddy put it together, we used a 350 short block out of a K1500 (reringed, new bearings, thoroughly cleaned), Comp 276HR-14 cam, a set of ported iron L98 heads with matching Comp springs, Holley TBI intake, Holley TBI, Edelbrock headers, home made Y pipe with a 3" dump, upgraded TH700R4, a 3.45 9 bolt rear. This car starts up fines, idles rough but doesn't die, gets descent gas mileage, and ran a traction limited 14.1 (street tires on 16" rims) on the stock 305 TBI Prom. It has sence been upgraded with a 145MPH speedo and a Caprice 350 TBI prom and runs better yet.

He got most of the parts used so it was a really cheap build up, the only thing he bought new was a cam, springs, gaskets, bearings and rings. It would be hard to duplicate this for the same price he did, but easy to put the same thing together. I would substitute the Vortec heads and a GM Performance Parts intake.

well wether the cam is "too big" depends mostly on the heads....What is the power band of the vortec heads?

If you end up getting a block, I have a set of complete vortec heads, valve covers, 1.6 RR, and performer rpm air gap intake for the right price :P

You should ditch the TBI for a good carb setup...

Are they new? Shoot me a price: mxfreek125@hotmail.com

EDIT: Just the heads (no rockers, valve covers or intake) if you're willing to seperate.
