Question What to buy for my TPI??

I am looking to improve my car's quarter mile times. I am in school right now so money is kinda tight and i need to pass emissions. My bottem end is a 406 with Ross pistons, my cam is a hydraulic cam with:
Advertised Duration: 272º
Duration @ .050: 216°
Lobe Separation: 110°
Gross Lift: .454''
i have the stock TPI unit with a home ported plenum, base, runners, stock throttle body.
I have the stock exhaust manifolds with borla out back. i have an adjustible fuel pressure regulator.
I have the 2.73 gear, stock converter and 700R4 tranny.
i have run a best of 14.1@96 NA on radials, and on the juice i have run a 12.1@112 with slicks. I was looking to get the best improvement on my NA time. I would like to run in the 13.3 range. What kinda of mods would you guys suggest???

throw in some 3.42 gears ... they work well in an auto...
get some headers w/ AIR tubes if you want to and need to pass emmissions... do you have underhood checks? they don't here in nashville so i am just gonna get my headers w/o and not worry bout it... all i have to do is pass a sniffer test

I would either get rid of those manifolds or get a new intake. Those both are choking the crap out of that 406. I personally would look into getting a set of headers and Y pipe. You will be much happier with the results. Again that is what I think.

a build 406 and you're only running 14.1?

i would definatly suggest the headers, most of them are emmisions legal if you keep the cat.

you could also benefit from something like a super ram, or at least some large tube runners and highflow base.

I suggest a Stealth Ram. Not that expensive($600 for everything you will need, including adjustable fuel rails), Headers...X pipe, keep the cats(for Mr. Sniffer). That should get you pretty close to where you want to be. The Stealth Ram is 50+ hp and the headers will probably get you around 25 or so, I would think that would do it. hat's what I plan to do this summer.

What heads are on this engine? HP is all in your heads. Headers will definately help A LOT. I agree with someone else to get rid of the TPI completely (don't WASTE your money on the TPI parts) and go with a stealthram, miniram, modified LT1 intake, etc. All of these intakes will need a custom PROM which costs some $$$ if not done by yourself or a friend with the equipment.

One question though, How can money be tight with a 406(forged pistons) and borla exhaust($$$)? Give us a budget to think about.

The Stealth Ram intake is built on the design of a carb manifold and it's not meant to pass smog, not saying that you can't get away with it, if' its strictly a sniffer test, but I guess that all depends on the state you live in.

I just need to pass the sniffer test in Illinois. The heads are cast iron 491's, and i figured that i would need a custom prom for my application. I would like to go with the stealth ram because from what i have heard people have been very happy with it, but then would i need to swap out my cam for more power above 5000 rpm?? The reason I have a 406 is because my dad's friend works in a machine shop and we already had the block and the pistons my dad ran in one of his circle track cars. And as far as the borla exhaust, a guy totaled out a nice IROC by his work and the guy needed the perfomance parts taken out b/c insurance wouldn't give him anything and in payment of taking off all of his parts, my dad got the exhaust. So as far as my budget i would like to spend under $1500.
