Water Pump
Water Pump
My water Pump went out the other day in my 92 RS . so I called up the guys at nappa and ordered a remanufactured pump with a lifetime waranty. After taking everything off I go to install the new pump and the top left part of the pump is hitting the belt tensioner bracket! Luckly I have an old grinder and I had to grind off about an 1/8th of an inch off the pump to get it to fit. Everything is back on the car now but I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem before?
everything fit fine when i installed a new pump on my old 87 iroc with a 305tpi.
could be something with the pump manufacturer.
long as it fits now and pumps water...who cares
how much did you pay for the pump? i thought of going to a highflow, alum. pump when mine went but i didnt' have the $$

the pump was remanufactured so that is why I think it is kinda wierd it didn't fit. but I payed $18.00 for it. it was a coupple bucks more than one from Advance auto but it had a lifetime waranty as apposed to a one year waranty.
I looked at high flow pumps from jegs and couldn't justify spending that much for one that is just going on my L03.

Remanufactured means they reuse the GM casting. Therefore you should have no interference issues. I think aklim is right, you might have an older style standard rotation pump from an earlier v-belt SBC. Hope they'll take it back after you ground on it
And if they don't, scream like hell that they gave you the wrong part to begin with. They'll take it back just to shut you up!
Anytime I go to get parts, and this includes dealers, I give them the part number. The computer is not always right, and the counter people are even worse. The one local parts store that had a good computer database and knowledgeable staff closed due to the large chains. AutoZone, Pep Boys, Advanced, etc all suck! I had a counter guy from Advanced (who actually owned a 350TPI 89 IROC) tell me that the carbed Camaro's stopped in 1984! MORON! Support the smaller local parts stores, they're better at getting you what you need the first time IMO.

How will I be able to tell if its the right one? I thought reverse flow was on the gen 2 blocks like an LT1.
About grinding it, I called the guy up before I did and asked if it would void the waranty. he said "no" sounded a little strange but that is what he said.

You see, I don't really know. I do know that Summit Racing sent me the wrong WP and it would not work right. The correct one from Edelbrock worked just perfect. It will fit with a good amount of work but if you are not careful it will cause overheating.
