Water Necks universal?

Ok.. say I were to buy a intake manifold off of ebay. Lets say, this manifold doesn't come with a water neck. Are all water neck's universal? Does it matter if it is a 90-degree, or 20-degree, or what?
Thanx all,
Matt

Re: Water Necks universal?

EFI ones are different and are smaller than the old style ones. You need to know the application first

Hey aklim... nice to talk to you again! Well, I know it's not EFI.. but will any carb'd manifold take any carb'd water neck? Does year matter? I looked around ebay for water necks.. none say years they fit though.

The water neck is aka Thermostat housing? So is that where the thermostat for the cluster gauge is?

The thermostat is mechanical; it is calibrated to open and close to control engine temperature around 195°F - 220°F.
The engine temperature sending unit for the cluster temp gauge is located between and below the #1 & 3 spark plug holes. Single wire usually green.

So far it has been green for me. However when someone replaces the wire because it got loose and hit the exhaust manifold and melted, it is white because that is what color comes from the GM dealership or parts house. Replace a TPS sensor harness and see 3 white wires.
