Hi guys, I have a 91' TPI 305 engine. I'm planning on doing as camaro performers did in their "Hate Me" article and milling some vortec heads for the 305. Has anyone in here ever done or heard of doing this on a TPI engine? I know I'd have to get a different intake to fit the heads, and I'm unsure about cam selection. The carbed non-roller 305 in the article made 372 hp @6,100 rpm (with COMP 268 cam, edelbrock vortec air gap, and speed demon 650 carb). Do you think if I used vortec heads for my 305 if that would be a good platform to build around 325 hp with proper cam, porting, and exhaust? I got the engine for a good deal and it only has 60,000 miles on it, so I would like to make it work if I could. I think the 305 is capable of producing the amount of power I want. I'd love to have your opinions on what you would do with this engine, unless your opinion is to trash the 305 in favor of a 350.
thanks guys.
thanks guys.
I did a similar build on a 350. I used vortec heads and a 218/224 cam. Still using the TPI setup and I'm not putting down those kind of numbers.
I could be putting out more with a bigger cam of course, but that doesn't play too well with the TPI setup. I do my own prom burning and my driveability is really nice. WOT just has something to be desired.
Hope that helps
