ur puttin TBI on this vortec heads? ur insane man.

what kind of cam are u puttin in it?

not really sure, but ive heard that porting Vortec heads doesnt really do much, and sometimes can even hurt the performance. if u heard something different let me know.

looks good tho man!

Looked at your engine picks, did you remove the press in studs and replace them with screw in ones? Has work been done to the heads as far as machining to accept the high lift you will be generating by the Hot Cam with 1.6 rockers? If ytou haev not installed the crank on the engine, I would have it standing upright vise laying it.
I too am building a 350 with Vortec heads. Had the heads machined for higher lift, screw studs, NSA rockers with guide plates. Also too the internals and had it balanced. Still up in the air if I want to use a carb or the 454 TBI that I am currently porting.

Re: The Vortec headed 350 going in my 92 Bird

the cam in puttin in is the GM perf."hot cam" hydro roller
219/228
.525 lift

my dad does head work so he is modding them for the high lift.
and i am also looking for a 454 TB but am starting to think it might even be to small. might have to throw a holley on for the meentime till the FAST efi system goes on.

also we are not doing major porting on the Votec just cleaning them up. and making the intake runners smooth. my dad had some hopped up Vortecs on his old 406 and he picked up a few CFM from porting them. he also had them cut for bigger valves.

maybe a shot of juice down the road

A lot less after the press-in rocker studs start pulling out.

Modify for screw-in now, rather than taking it all apart to do it when you have to later.

With properly set up TBI, you'll probably make around 350 horse. You are planning on burning your own PROM, correct?

i would say in the neighborhood of 400 hp,but w/ the TBI intake and TB,prob 300-350,somewhere in there.

yea im thinking of staying away from the TBI now. i would only have to have the carb on for atleast a season. till the FAST efi goes on with the single plan and 4bbl thorottle body.

they sell that TBI intake for 300bucks new and mine pretty much is i wonder if anyone would buy it???

Programable Read Only Memory.

The chip in your computer.

If you're going with a 750 Holley, never mind.

If you stay with TBI, you're going to have to learn it.

yea i have never even heard of that. i dont think TBI will supply enough air for me set up any way. the FAST will be the way to go. .

if its only for a season,i would def. go w/ a carb, you will enjoy the power so much more.

since it was already F.I. , u could just buy the $80 Mallory fuel pressure regulator that will take the high fuel pressure from the fuel injected pump and bring it down to carb. pressure (5-7lbs). im using one on my car and it works awesome,im using the original fuel line and return line, then just running a steel braided line from it to the carb.

Re: The Vortec headed 350 going in my 92 Bird

If you go TBI it'll run like crap with the stock chip, I know. If you plan to change to a 8-injector setup Id just save your money and skip the carb, I had a buddy do that and he wasnt too happy with the results for the carb after he got a good efi system and had to switch back. Truthfully, Id either just carb it right off the bat and keep it that way or wait for that other setup to come along. Like I said, I know... lol.
