Venom 400 Control Module
Venom 400 Control Module
I have a friend that has a 1988 Mustang GT, he got the Venom 400. After install, he told me he noticed a bigggggggg change in power. Anyways i was unaware that they made them for camaro's and he made fun of me for a while, i just found out that they are making the control box for tpi camaro's and i was wondering if their "25%" hp gain could be looked upon as true.

Botch - No way. Their is no way you can pick up 25% power from that gadget. SCAM!
LOL.... Villie, I'd be a little more careful when you call someone an idiot because they're informing you that this product doesn't do what it claims to. There is NO WAY in HELL that module is gonna increase power by 25% at all. What the hell does it do? Act as an artificial head/cam swap?? Christ jesus almighty, If I woulda known that I was only gonna gain 75 hp for like $2000 in engine mods I woulda been better off buying this $300 gem. Woulda done the same thing.
No matter what you say its not gonna gain 25% more power, thats assinine. I can't imagine what that thing does.... no amount tuning on a stock motor will gain you 25% more power. And neither will that.

I have not used the Venom, but I'm sure it does help with gains, not sure if they would be 25% (and that is probably over stock with no other mods),if you are running any other modifications you will probably not see that much of an increase. If you really want the facts call them or Summit they both have toll free numbers, and are useually happy to answer any questions.
I didnt call him an idiot, i called him a moron. It was reguards to him calling it a SCAM. I dont belive the 25% gain, that is why i put it in a quote in my first post. i just want to know if anyone has used it and what they found. This is how they justify it. does it make sence?

FAQ:
The Venom 400 is a top seller and proven performer. Gain up to 25% more horsepower and torque from your vehicle! Installation is easy and can be completed in 30 minutes in most cases. Vehicle specific instructions are included. Here are some frequently asked questions/answers that have been answered by Venom (Python Injection Inc.)
Q. Okay, How Does It Work??
A. The Venom 400 activates at about 25-30% Throttle Angle. When it does it modifies the input signals going into your computer, in particular the Manifold Absolute Pressure and Throttle Position Sensor Signals.
Q. How Do I Get More Power From That?
A. Well, when the computer sees these "modified" signals it will provide a different set of fuel and ignition maps than it would normally provide. These maps tell the computer what the spark timing and fuel injection pulse (fuel) should be for any given engine operating condition, like under load, part throttle or deceleration. The Venom makes the computer use different maps that are more aggressive and provide better performance.
Q. What Do You Mean By Better?
A. Well, the factory ECUs are not always tuned for the best performance, they are tuned for the best fuel economy and emissions. That's particularly true of sport compact cars that are designed to get good fuel economy.
Q. So Emissions will Go Up? and Fuel Economy Will Go Down?
A. Actual tail pipe emissions will probably remain well within specifications. This is a result of the efficient (but restrictive) catalytic converters found on modern vehicles. Fuel economy will usually decrease slightly. It is difficult to make more horsepower without burning more fuel, that's just a fact of life. If anyone tells you that they can increase horsepower without burning more fuel on a late model (95 and up) vehicle I would be suspicious. The fact is, the manufacturers do an great job at getting the most horsepower at the "lowest emission level" possible. But they are concerned more with emissions and fuel economy so they will detune the engine by 10 or so horsepower if it can mean a ULEV certification or extra 1 mile per gallon. (Ultra Low Emissions)
Q. So Is This Like a PROM or Computer Chip?
A. Kind of, but different and better. PROM chips really steamed from GM products. Tuners would reprogram and tweak the PROMS to get more performance.
When we started developing the Venom we thought of doing that but ruled it out quickly. First, the industry is going to Flash PROMS, which are non removable. That means you have to take your whole computer out, send it to someone to have it reprogrammed, which can take days, that is a pain. In addition once programmed its in there and in order to "turn it off", lets say for "on-road" use or emissions certification, you would have to reprogram it again. We really didn't see that as a viable option for the customer. We wanted to be able to switch it on or off (i.e. for on road, off road). The problem with PROMS is that most states will have some type of emissions program. Two things can happen. The PROM programmer gets too aggressive and the vehicle won't make it through a test. Or, they are too conservative and you don't get the performance gains. Because you can switch ours off, you don't have to worry about that.

So basically they lie to the computer to tell it to go into power enrichment mode 1/4 sec sooner whenyou mash the peddle and I assume that they are telling the computer that there is less of a load on the motor so it won't dump as much fuel into the chambers.... i.e. running the motor a little leaner (cause factory programming is really fat.) I COULD do that same thing in about 30 seconds assuming I had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a screw driver.

No chip tuner can ever gaurantee that you will see that much power. So, on a 300HP car, you really think you will see 75HP with just an ECM change? Sorry but if a company is trying to boost sales by making such rediculous claims, they warrant suspicion in my opinion.
I funny agree with aklim. Your friend must just think its faster. Does he have any track times to "prove" this to you? A lot of times you can add a little more spark advance and the car will feel snappier but it won't actually gain you anything. Its just an "all in your mind" thing. Lots of people documented that kind of stuff. Ask Traxion. He's from thirdgen.org. He can tell you LOTS of stuff about tuning
What it can and absolutely CANNOT do.

Why not buy it from Summit Racing and see how it works. Return it if you find it doesn't help. I gaurantee that unless your ECM or EPROM is somehow faulty, simply adding that will not give you 25% more power. How will it gaurantee that it takes into consideration all the changes you make? It cannot. Get a custom EPROM by someone who straps the car on a dyno and makes changes or someone who uses the datalogs to create the program. Nothing else will work as well.
