Updated L98 Progress Page

Just letting everyone know how things are going. The motor is down to the short block. Tomorrow after school the cam will be coming out and possibly pistons/rods. Everything looks clean inside. The new engine is basically figured out and I'll start ordering parts as soon as I can.

-SLP Runners (Ported)
-Ported Base/Plenum
-LT4 HOTcam Kit (I know I'll have to have the heads worked)
-.030" Over

I figure Mid 13's.

NOTE: Before anyone tells me to get rid of TPI or get different heads--Budget! I figure, with machine work, I'll have ~1,500 in it and a solid performing car with respectable 13 second timeslips.

Dude, get the guys over at Evernham Motorsports to hook you up with a set of Dart Iron Eagle heads. Oh, and ditch the TPI.

Hey Rippin, that sounds almost exactly like my planned setup. I don't yet know if I am going to be able to get another set of heads all together or just pick up another set of 083's and have them worked. But good luck, let us know how it goes.

Heads! Heads! Heads! That's where the power's at!! Always has been, always will be.

Anything and I mean ANTHING you can do to make the heads flow better is going to drop straight to the bottom line. For about the price of a rebuilt stock head you can have slightly better World Products S/R torquers. A little more scratch and you can have a set of really decent flowing aftermarket heads from a number of different places.

It's just that the stock castings suck so bad that just about ANYTHING you do to them is going to make them flow better. Port out the stock castings. Get some S/R Torquers. Go aftermarket. Do SOMETHING different than stock. Heads will pay a bigger dividend than all the other mods you have planned COMBINED.

I'm serious. Save the 4 bills you plan on spending on the runners and ported lower intake and get some good heads. You'll go faster for less money.

I agree, I understand the whole budget thing, I have budget problems with my buildup all the time. However, if you put the heads back on bone stock without at least porting the stockers Im gonna send you a bomb in the mail or something.

I mean c'mon who takes their motor down to the shortblock and doesnt do SOMETHING with the heads?

What is this "budget" that you speak of?

We shall enjoy turning him to the dark side of the force.

Whoa! Did I say stock heads? I meant stock PORTED out the ying yang heads! Porting/Polishing. Anyway, cam/pistons/rods are all out. Crank is ready to come out. I'll be updating the page tonight (1/30/04). The cylinder walls are in awesome shape! Virtually no ridges! The cam lobes look great. This motor is just in dang good shape!

Heads: Just curious, can a typical SBC intake be mounted on LT1 heads? I'd really like to get a set and put them on (they're cheap as heck, aluminum, and flow real well especially with some porting). Otherwise I'll wait for a deal or just stick with ported stockers.

Good job guys on ignoring the flamer. I'll delete these in a bit, I want C&J to see these.

not without some machine work, which will negate the savings
