Update on brakes - Im screwed
ok, sound like your flexible brake lines could be bad. to clearify, when the car pulled to the left, this was after you had taken your foot off the brake pedal, correct?
the e-brake could be causing the moaning problem, but the swerving is definately not caused by the rear brakes. it has to be something in the front end.
before you go buy parts, do one more test. take another drive (on low traffic roads) and see if the car start pulling to the left again after applying the brakes. if so, keep driving around and get the problem to repeat 5 or 6 times, if this can be done safely. the intention is to build some heat in the left front brake/wheel. if it is hotter around the center than the right front, it is a dead give away that the left front is locking up. trust me, it is always better to do alittle bit of diagnosis work before jumping right in and changing things.
usually when a caliper starts acting up, it will stick for a split second after pedal pressure is released and then completely release. but, if a brake line is locking, it can hold pressure for a good while before releasing and sometimes completely lock up. you can change the calipers first to see if it fixes the problem, but there is a good chance that brake lines need replacing. i wouldn't even mess with the rear brakes for now.

Heh, believe me, Iv done plenty of tests.
When I brake and come to a full stop, I can let off the brakes, and not go anywhere...
I give it some gas, and start to move. Tap the brakes, and maybe one caliper will let loose (or just give it about 30 seconds, and one of them finally will let go).
So, really it acts randomly. Sometimes after braking, all is good. Other times, one wont let up, both wont, etc. It just depends.
I dont understand how it is BOTH of them? That seems off that both of them would give me this grief at once. Now, if one were messing up, I could understand coinsidence...

that last reply tells me that it is a good chance that your brake lines are starting to deteriorate and causing the problem. it would be a good idea to replace them, but they are kind of expensive (40$ apiece i believe from napa). so, its your call. just calipers, or calipers and lines. personally, i have never seen a car act like you are describing from sticking calipers, but that is just my experience.
let me know if you have any more questions. i'll try and check the board this weekend

When I had that problem with my 88 iroc-z..I found that I needed to replace just the brake hose line on my passeneger side. It was making that caliper lock up. Brakes are easy enough to do anyways...just stop being lazy and get out the floor jack and do it yourself
