my winter beater i bought has unfit on the ownership, that just means it needs to be re-certified right? (ontario)

 

if its unfit the things you need to have proof of are an e-test, certification and proof of insurance. I am assuming that the car doesnt have plates on it currently?(it shouldnt). So you just need to do everything necessary to get plates for it.

And as to the actual question a vehicle needs to be certified every time the ownership changes hands.
