Which Type of Camaro To buy....?

My Brother has lost his ricer mentality and wants a 3rd Gen, Camaro. He wants a Iroc or an RS But he wants a 350 or 305 Automatic with T-tops.. The only reason he likes the RS is because of the air damns in the GFX. But the main Concerns are no Rust and T-tops and a 350 if he can find it. But in searching I was wondering which would be better for him, Speed Density, or Maf? He will probably be installing my old 406 with some S/R Torquer Heads and some type of big mouth TPI or ram jet or even a miniram intake system.. Which one could he adapt to this system and it run the top of it's nature.. He doesn't want to have to do like me and get a whole new fuel Management system..

Any ideas' which would be better maf or Speed Denisty

Iroc is better then RS..the RS is a cheaper model of a z28. I dont think the RS came with 350s at all except if they were poliece or federal cars..and they didnt make too many of those. It sounds to me like an iroc would be the direction to go..as you know alot of irocs have 350s. what he can do is this..after he gets his car he can simply put the RS GFX on it. thats what i would do

Looking for "T-tops and a 350" you say? Thats what I have been looking for, and havn't found many. I was told that not many were made with T-tops and a 350. I finaly found one with a GM Crate engine in it.

Just letting you know, cuz I have been looking for the same thing

Easiest way to go is find an Automatic 350 Iroc from 87-89 with the MAF system. My car cost $5000 a few years back and I have since put $3000 into it. I plan more mods this winter and up until this point I have had very few problems with it ( unless it was somthing that I broke ).

As far as mods I would go with the motor you described, with a Stealth Ram. Thats gonna be the easiest and least expensive way for you to go. With that combo I'd assume you'd pretty deep in the 12's. Thats a street monster in my book... low 12's pretty cheap.

Good luck with your search. The 350 cars with T-tops were a bit rarer than some would like to believe.

The only way your going to find a 350 with T-tops is looking for an 87-89 IROC. Otherwise starting in 90 they did not make a 350 with T-tops. It's going to be hard to find an IROC with a 350, T-tops and no rust. I got lucky and found an 89 IROC that was an arizona car and then stored when it was with the last owner.

But expect to pay some nice money for a rust free 350 with T-tops. They are out there but you have to look.

ive seen quite a few irocs with 350s in the paper for sale..before i bought my 85 i went to go look at an 88 white iroc with ttops, automatic, with black interior and a 350. power everything. The guy wanted 3500 for it but i decided to go for the one i have now simply because it had all new parts mods a rebuild and a brand new paintjob. they are around you just gotta look MAF system is ok but a pain when they go bad. its aggrivating as anything to pay 200-300 for a cheap piece of plastic with a chip inside lol

I'd look for the car you want and not worry if it was Speed Density or MAF. If the car he gets and it is MAF then all you do is convert it to Speed Density for a cost of around $150 and you have the best of both worlds. Getting a MAF converetd to SD costs less than a new MAF sensor.

Well, since he is going to put a 406 in it ... who cares if it is a 350 or 305. Just look for an A4, either RS or IROC. If it's an RS (easier to find with T-Tops), you'll need to swap it from a TBI to TPI, not that hard. The best TPI setup for power is the SD system, it is the most advanced EFI system available on 3rd gens.

minus the t-tops i'd have to agree since gm never offered 350's with t-tops from 90-92. although some dealer installed setups are out there so don't give up hope if you have your heart set on it.

91's are about the best deal you'll find though as you won't pay the premium to have a "92" but you'll have all the looks, power, etc. of the 92 with a few less recalls.

if i had to do it all over again i'd find myself an early iroc style thirdgen the cheapest i could find with a straight and "rust-free" body if it's possible and build it to the hills!

but if you only are looking to purchase the car an add a couple bolt on's here and there then the 91-92 z28 will give you the most performance and style inside and out for your money...unless your an iroc fan then i would say 87-89 since you could have a 350 and t-tops. but you loose alot of options.

good luck with the choice!
