tuned port on a throttle body??
i have a 92 rs with a 5.0 throttle body injection, i was wondering if it is possibe and has anybody ever bolted a tuned port injection setup on a tbi? i wanted to know if the ports will line up, or will i have to machine them to line up, if there are any tips or tricks from anybody who has done it, and how much money am i lookin at since i can get the tpi manifold for dirt cheap. thanks for any help you can give
Sure, lots of people have done it. Everything should bolt right up to the heads no problem. You will need the entire TPI setup. You'll need the wiring harness and ECM too. You'll have to replace your fuel pump with a higher pressure unit. Goto www.thirdgen.org There are quite a few people over there who have accomplished the swap and the can fill you in on all the little details.
It will bolt right up if you get a 87+ setup. If you get a 85-86 setup you will have to change the bolt angles.
As for price, it depends on what kind of condition the setup is that you get. If you get everything harness, sensors, ecu, pump, intake, fuel injectors, the flexable fuel hoses(not the hard lines). Then all you will need is a gasget set and a few weeks to put it all togeather. If you are going to do this the best way would be to find a 91-92 car with the same engine and trans combo and get it off of that car.
If you get the TPI stuff from a junk yard expect to pay 300-500 bucks for the setup.
Some things you might need to replace or just do it so you know it's new.
fuel pump about $85 for a stock one
$125 for a 255lph one from summit
new injectors about $230 for 19lb/hp accel about the same for 22lb/hp
gasket set is $30-$70 depending on what ones u get gm ones seal the best.
Fuel lines from the tank to the hard lines and hard lines to the fuel rail about $30 bucks
sandblasting the intake about 30 bucks nice to get it all clean.
$15 bucks for the thottle cable and kickdown cable.
