true duals
why is everyone going with catback systems when true duals sound so much better. I know there are ground clearance factors, but it can be done and sometimes cheaper than catback.
A single 4" cat back will flow better and out perform a doul 2" exhaust.
Test the theory... Draw a 4" circle and then draw two 2" circle s inside the 4" circle. Then you'll see all the extra space that a single pipe uses for the exhast to flow.

not this again...
oh well, fact is large single pipe can flow just as much as true duals. fact is not one exhaust shop would run duals on my car, i called them all in my city. and there is always the legality issue, it may not be simple for many people to deal with that. check this link out:

That link was perfect!!!
Unless you have enough room to run two 3" pipes under the car... a single 4" will do just the same.</font>

the light was placed under the lowest part of the syst. to show ground clearance. plus, if you replace the cheap mufflers w/dynomax bullits (about $40 ea. from summit) you wont even have to modify the floor boards like I did. that part above the muff.s is underneath the rear seat cushions, so it is unnoticable from inside the car.

Going with true duals is good for the image. They can say "Look, I have true duals so I am a real sports car." Most people don't need them. If you factor in the time to construct it out of say 304 mandrel bended steel and quality mufflers and the cost of the materials and the fact that you have changed your ride height vs what your needs are and look at it LOGICALLY, you probably would decide against it.

true that its prolly not for the guy that wants to ride on the ground. not enough room for true duals and being slammed. but Im not into that at all.
the mandrel bent stuff is for the people w/lots of money, so they can get the 4" tubing instead anyway.
now you look at my explanation LOGICALLY.

I agree that 4" will do the same, but those systems cost like $600! I got my duals w/hpipe used for $60, but could have paid a local exh. guy around me like $250 plus the mufflers for custom job new.</font>

i couldnt find one exhaust shop in my city to bend and weld a dual setup. so that really wasnt an option for me at the time. BTW nice pics

You guys that say your local shops won't do dual setups.... heres the way to get them to do it-
Tell them you will pay with cash and expect no receipt. This will limit their liability and leave no paper trail that they're the one's that did the job.
If you have a cat converter take it off and slip a piece of flexpipe in until you get to the exhaust shop. Then they can't say they're liable for removing it.
And you guys quit arguing! To each his own, its your car, put the pipes you want on it!
I personally prefer single, but a good dual system on 3rd gens always impresses me. The guy that Chris got his dual system from is a good friend of mine who's car went in the high 10's this past weekend. He needs the duals that he upgraded to.

Has anyone thought of going with a 2 in 2 out muffler? I tried but I took it to the wrong shop. I first bought a 2 in 2 out Borla muffler on ebay that is just about the same dimensions as stock give or take. But I took it to a guy that had only been doing exhaust for a month, My car than sat there for 3 weeks till he said he couldn't do it. I then bought the borla catback and had another shop put it on and make a y pipe. A friend of mine is probably going to try it at the better shop. If he doesn't does anyone have any interest? Has anyone done it this way?
2 friends of mine have done it that way. One held up with cherry bomb mufflers but it looked and sounded a bit redneckish. The other was expensive sounded good but he ripped it off within a week running from the cops.
well I am going to use dynomax bullits and my dad is a cop and we have have no emissions and he says, that as long as it exits the body of the car it is legal. I just have to raise my car alittle for clearance but I have seen some sweet looking cars like this.
