Maybe the shifter linkage cable. It runs from the side of the tranny (drivers side metal piece) to your shifter.

Get under your car and try to manually shift the transmission into park with the metal piece that the shifter linkage cable is attacted to. As long as you can physically put the tranny in park then it should just be the cable.

Those cables are known, to get filed with crud, and not work they make greeseable ones I do believe, un hook and try by hand if work, then get new cable and greese the heck out of it and try to do so every other oil change

Have you removed the trans pan as of reasent? If the bolts that hold the manual linkage to the pan have fallen out this will cause the sensation that you are feeling in the trans linkage itself. I have seen it happen on several occasions.

Take care,

Erik
