tranny problems please help

ok it's the tranny in my 2000 4cly. s-10. it's a five speed manual. first off i have no second gear, and the tranny sticks in first, unless i grind reverse while i'm goin down the road and then it will go into 3,4,and 5 gears. what is up i really hope i don't have to get a new tranny.

ok... here's my question to you... do you double clutch or shift gears real quick? do you power shift? u should check to see if it has enough tranny fluid... 20 bucks says when if you were to drain your tranny fluid, you'd find pieces of metal shavings everywhere... and if that's the case, i'd get a new tranny. go pick up a t-56 at the junk yard for like around a grand

Yeah that T-5 is definitely toast. And yes, it is a T-5 in the S-10, and no, it doesn't interchange with the 3rd gen T-5 (AFAIK.)

thanks J, that answers a lot. Now how much longer do you think i've got left on it. i've got all my money goin towards this 383 and don't have any to spend on that stupid truck, i've had nothing but trouble out of it since the day i bought it. bad "lemon" been through a motor, a rearend, and now a tranny. that sucks, but at least the motor was under warranty, maybe i can find a used tranny.
thanks any way,
Derrick

yeah... do that... so when your tranny gives out in the middle of rush hour traffic, you have to call a tow truck to pick you and your car up, lol

T56 in a '00 4cyl S10, good one dj! Jk man.

Let us know what happens. It should be fun tearing the old one apart once you get a new one. Just be easy on it I geuss, that's all you really can do. Later man

I wouldnt do that if I were you but if you do be carefull man. My tranny just about went out on me on the highway. I limped all the way to an off ramp to a gas station just barely making it. I got lucky that it didnt quit on me on the highway. I would have been f****d

Sounds like the syncro's, seconds on the metal shavings...sorrry.
Some of these newer tranny's don't take much abuse. Especially high rpm shifts, double clutching will help by syncronizing the input and output shafts closer in speed before meshing gears. Scan the salvage yards, you should find a reasonable replacement.

It wouldn't be the first time a tranny's gone out on me while i was drivin down the road. the first tranny that went out on me i was about 15 miles from home and drove it all the way in first gear, and when the 700r4 went out in my t/a we towed it behind my freinds truck about 10 miles, so i'm def. used to it. oh and dj, rush hour traffic around here would prob. be a joke to most of you guys.
