Which Tranny?

Hey, I am building a TPI 350 and was wondering if it will work with any other transmission better or just stick with the 700R4?

You should be fine with the 700R4 if you get a performance rebuild. Mine lasted 6 months behind the 383 till I got a performance rebuilt and then it lasted 3.5 years.

My GM rebuilt one lasted for 6 months with me babying it. Got it rebuilt by Rossler Trans which does rebuilding of trannys for LPE. It lasted for 3.5 years with me driving it daily and beating it 2 or 3 times a day. All year round too.

how long do you think my 700r4 is going to last, it isnt rebuilt, but hasnt been abused .. that i know of =p.. i put an LT1 in my car, and the power it will be pushing i think is around 360-450 HP when im through with it.. Should i get a rebuild, or a new trans -- maybe a 400 trans? where can i get some 400 trans for good prices ? any one? thanks.

The 700R4 is a great street tranny. It offers a very low first gear to get you off the line especially when you have poor highway gears in the diff. It also offers an OD to bring the engine rpms down while on the highway and give you good fuel mileage.

The 700R4 however is not a good drag race tranny. It's not as strong as it could be and to beef it up, it would be cheaper to just buy a built TH350 or TH400. The gear spread between 1-2 is too far apart and a WOT shift drops the rpm down too far compared to other gear ratio options.

I like the 200R4 gearspread. Isn't the TH340 basically a 4L60 without the overdrive and the TH400 basically a 4L80 without the overdrive?

OD is great for a street car. If I owned a trailer queen I might very well be going for a TH350 or a TH400 simply because gas mileage doesn't matter when it is being towed. However, if you own a car that sees the street more than a Sat night you would be crazy to go to a tranny without OD because the gas bill would kill you and fast.

well its mostly going to be a strip car, but once in awhile i want to take it out, maybe once a week for the hell of it, but i really dont care about gas mileage, because one week i cant afford it i just wont take it out at all.. i want the TH400, know the cheapest place to get one ?

Junkyard. Get it cheap and just have someone professionally rebuild it.
