I did this on my 305 TPI
Holley 600 CFM Carb
Mallory 3 port fuel pressur regulator
Edelbrock Performer Intake
TBI water neck
TBI upper radiator hose
New 160 degree thermostat
Proform Mechanical distributor
misc. 1/2" pipe plugs(for intake and regulator) You could probaby use a 2 port regulator now that i think about it.
Rubber fuel lines need to be moified if you can't find adapter fittings. Nobody makes 5/16" or metric(whatevr the fuel feed and return lines are..) to 1/2" stuff around here. I pressed a new fitting onto my old hose. A 3/8" fitting onto the rubber hoses
FP set at 6.5 PSI, the stock fuel pump works(had a probem lately however it wouldn't kick on so we hot wires it to the ignition..also presented problemn of car not shutting off afterwards.m till the hot wire was cut..grr..hmm
), all the guages work. FANS WILL NOT WORK UNLESS...you do what I did. Using the stock relays, wire the fan(s) up to a manual switch. It's so much better. I can get my temps down from 240 to 160 in under 2 minutes idling. EASILY.
The new ditributor only has to be spliced into the stock wirin harness..Find the right wires, make a connector somehow and viola, it works like a charm. I didn't use my Vacuum adance but it advances perfectly anyways. Hooking up the vacuum advance only added like 2 or 3 degrees so we just played with the base timing. I got it at 4 degrees because i'm gonna spray a 100 shot sooner or later and that worked ok when I was using the TPI stuff... Goodluck man!! The enhanced top end charge is phenominal!! You DO lose a little off idle power but man does my car rev to 5500 nicely

ahahahahahah why on earth do you want to go with a carb? That's like taking a big step back intime. The tpi setup is great and efficent.Just look at gmhightech performance 88formula projectcar. No carb, smog friendly(will pass state inspection) a/c, n/a and a lot of power low 12's maybe high 11's don't know yet but impressive!Keep the tpi don't give up.BTW what r your problems that your having?????????
Does GMHTP still have the long runner setup on that 396 or did they finally do a SuperRam intake?
If they did a superram, they are smart and that's why they have ran a little btter times. I really don't understand why they built that hardcore 396 and matched i with all of those accel long intake runner pieces. They were honestly giving up 50+ HP on the top end.

Personally, I'd stick with the TPI.
I went from carb to TPI last year cuz I was so tired of messing with the carb.
Now I've got an LT4.

I would like to buy you're setup too if you decide to swap out.. I currently have a TBI, its alright but performance of the TPI would probably be 95% better

my problem is.... car runs perfect when idling. but when i click on my fans or headlights, anything that draws current, my car stumbles and dies!. i had the battery and alternator checked. i guess they both are ok. fuses are good, havent blown any.
and now my tranny took a dump again!.

Well I'm stumped. You might want to try a good shop if you can find one by you.I know of 2 but 1 is in new jersey and the other PA.Cartek is in NJ. and Stropespeed is in Pa.Goog luck and don't give up on the tpi.
I think the cost to make TPI fast doesn't outweigh what you save in gas money in comparison to a properly tuned carb (but most people can't tune a carb properly, and tuning a TPI costs alot and usually it takes a few tries to get it tuned right, each try costs more).
That's my opinion, not my suggestion.

well no you see the thing is. i already did spend the money, its the fact that everything else in my car is messed up.
i mean not only do i have problems with my headlights, and fans, that make my car go crazy. i have more electrical problems.
now my power locks dont work, my horn doesnt work, and i can control my fuel pump by my power windows!!!!!!!!. such as i can keep it priming by clicking it. so, tpi isnt my problem. its the whole wiring in my car!.
