Timing and distriution
I was curious how much some doule platinum spark plugs, and a high performance distributor will do for my car. Will it hurt or improve horsepower, torque, gas mileage. Any help appreciated. And any other suggestions welcome. Thank you very much.
Regular platnums are fine. The +2 and +4 types are a marketing tool to sell expensive plugs to the world. There is no "magic" plug. I tried splitfires when they came out (I was younger then and "low" on the learning curve). The only thing I learned is not to spend $60 on spark plugs. I went back to Bosch platnums and still run them today. Unfortunately, there is just not 30hp to be found in a set of plugs.
Have fun!

I recommend the single-strap Bosch platinums. I've been running them in my '91 for 6 years and only removed the first set about 14 months ago. And that was more for good measure than necessity (I was upgrading the dist., coil, and wires at the time.) The original set with about 55k miles on them were still in good shape. Just don't run them with nitrous.
I wouldn't change the distributor unless you're having problems with it or just came across one DIRT cheap and want to replace yours on principle.
