timing
my freind has a 93 mustang and he just recently adjusted the timing on it from 10 to 14, and there is a noticable difference in the power of the car, i was wondering if i were to adjust the timing on my 89 irocz if it would give me the same results, and if so how many degreze should i adjust it!
Thanks in advanced to anyone who responds!!!

Stock setting is 6*BTDC, which if you have an aftermarket chip, is where you want to leave it.
If not, it's a trial-and-error process to find out how much your particular car can take before detenation. On older cars you would advance the timing until you heard it ping, then back off 2-degrees. But with our "knock-retard"protection, you won't hear it until it already retards the timing and kills performance.
So, I'd sneak up on it. Start at 10-degrees and add 2-degrees at a time until you notice a fall in performance, then back off 2-degrees. Most seem to like 12* max, but if there are other issues as burning oil, lean condition, weak spark or overheating etc, you won't be able to tolerate that much.
