Time to ditch the ZZ-9....opinions pleeze!!

My setups in the sig....the ZZ-9er is much to small....I don't have to worry about smog....and the car is NOT my daily driver.....talked to a couple engine builders and they suggested the GM847 cam with 1.6 RR or even the
cca-12-468-8 with my current 1.5 RR's...I will be getting a tune and will have to swap in better valve springs....here are the CC# .584/.579 292/300....I'm gonna call Comp Cams but I wanna know what you guys think...or what cam you would run....thanks!

Re: Time to ditch the ZZ-9....opinions pleeze!!

When I was running a Miniram I had numerous discussions with the guys at TPIS. Their suggestions for an optimal cam usually came in around 230* @ .050 for duration and as tight a LSA as you could live with and still trust your O2 sensor readings at idle and low RPMs (112 or so). I was running a flat tappet cam in my engine (which was also a 400 small block, not a 350) and went a little smaller than recommended- a Comp Magnum 270 cam (224/224 @ .050 on a 110* LSA supplemented with 1.6 rockers). It seemed well matched and we would often find we'd bang it off the slightly conservative 6200 RPM rev limiter long before it ran out of top end charge.

The Miniram seemed to act similar to a modest single plane carbureted intake (Vic Jr.) as far as RPM range and overall behavior. So, even though we never ended up putting in a bigger cam I could probably predict how it would act. And a cam with about 230* @ .050 lik they suggested would probably have been about optimal for a weekend fun car that sees limited street duty or daily driving.
