Throw out bearing / Clutch return spring

92' Pontiac Firebird TPI, T-5

Ok. About a week ago I left a post about my squeaky tranny. Well I found out the pivot ball for the clutch fork was all the way out. I tightened it all the way back in and the noise went away. 3 days later the noise came back. At this point I knew it was the throw out bearing. Me, my uncle and his friend dropped my T-5 tranny and saw the throw out bearing was completely split in half. The bearing looked a bit RED from heat wear. This is odd expecially after just replacing it about 500 miles before. My uncle noticed that there wasnt a clutch fork return spring like in the 60's and 70's cars he used to work on. The throw out bearing isnt supposed to rest on the pressure plate when the clutch pedal is released. Well what is supposed to make it back off the pressure plate so it doesnt spin constantly? I think the sheet with the clutch kit said 1/2 inch space from the pressure plate and the throw out bearing.
