what are these relays? I'm lookin for my cooling fan relay because they won't come on at all for some reason. Are any of these the cooling fan relay?

"i" dont think so.. i know the one closest to the fender is for the fuel pump..

 

one is fuel pump, others might be for fans, not sure on a 92, if it was a 89 down there would be 4 over there, f/p, fan 1 , maf power and maf burn off

since i see 3, they are probably F/P, fan 1 and fan 2

 

Haynes manual says if your engine code is (F or 8) it's on the right side of the radiator support.
If it has an engine code of (G,H,E and S) then it's one of the relays in your picture.
And the manual I have does not say witch one it is.

ok well the middle 1 is deff the fuel pump....so both of the others could possibly be fan 1 and 2?...i guess ill just replace the other too and see what happens

1992 cooling fan relay wire colors are;
black w/red stripe,
large red,
brown,
dark green w/white stripe...making it the center one in the pic.

If you short across the big red wire(terminal "E") and the black wire-red stripe(terminal "A") on the relay plug, with the key on, the fan should run...
If it doesn't it's not the relay, or the fan switch, but IS the fan motor or wiring.

 

ok...the middle relay is fuel...the ones on both sides are fan #1 and fan #2 so i jumped those two and the fans come on...so what is the problem? is there something that isn't telling the relays to switch over?

 

the fans should come one no matter what the temperature as long as the A/C is on right? If so, the fans are not coming on with the a/c not even with a new relay.

yea ive let it get to 260 once or twice (before i noticed my fans werent coming on).....but idk...ill try it again since i changed out the relays. But will the a/c fan come on if the i turn the key in the ignition w/o the motor even started (stone cold too)?

 

any other suggestions? i changed all the sensors (thermo, coolant temp sensor, fan switch)

 

wiring

key on, check for power at the brown wire at both relays, check for constant power at the orange(or red) wire at both relays, check for continuity on the grey wire on the secondary fan relay, check between the relay and the switch in the head(pass side)

 

and no, primary fan is controlled by the ECM only, secondary fan is controlled by both the fan switch in the head and an A/C pressure switch(on the high side line)

 

how do i do that with the relay plugged in?

Just ram some wire into where the green wire goes into the the connection "socket" that connects to the relay?

 

I'm thinking the ECM is bad.
Because we know the fans work.
He jumped the relays and they turned on.
So there is power to the relays.
He has replaced everything but the A/C pressure switch.
So I'm thinking it's the ECM.
