TC problems after engine install

I've put another motor in this camaro I bought minus engine, it's a '90 w/ 700R4 tranny. The engine is running really good, but when you go to put it in gear no matter what you're RPM's are, or where you're idel is set, it will stall. Someone said check the TCC lockup solenoid, and the wires running to it, I couldn't find any wires running to the tranny at all (someone else removed the old engine). This car was a TBI L03 car of course, that now is carb. I still have ethe computer going though because im still using the fuel pump.

When you put it in gear, from the load it just jumps and dies.

I've got a tranny in another car, I can put in it if the tranny is just plain bad. But I don't want to if i don't have to.

I have not worked on it in about 2 months, but someone told me to go out and check the level in fluid, i ended up putting a quart in it...Could it just be low on fluid?

Or is it the converter?

Or is it just the TCC lockup solenoid?

Thanks

i would let it run till its warm to make sure theres the right level of fluid in it.

the only wires that go to a 700 are on the driver side, its a 4 prong plug the plugs straight down,a couple inches behind the shifter (on the tranny itself).

was the car drivin long w/ the 700 in it while it was carbed? b/c if it was, that couldve fried the trans seeing as how the TC wasnt being locked up.

No, because everytime I go from park, or N, it jumps and stalls. has not been driven anywhere...just cranked and tuned.

That really wouldn't hurt the tranny. I've been driving my Lumina with a 125-C with the lockup unplugged for 6 years/80k miles. The lockup solenoid went bad, and I didn't feel like replacing it. (I don't baby this car, it goes off-roading, gets drag raced, and I'm a spirited street driver as well)

The lockup will slightly reduce RPM and trans temp, but running with no lockup will not "kill" a tranny.

not sure the difference in strength ur trans and a 700 is,but i heard that driving around in OD (just normal cruising u know) for a while will kill it eventually.

from the factory they lock-up in 2nd or 3rd gear, but i have mine locking up in OD now that ive done the carb swap.

Well, which is it? First you say that no lockup will kill a tranny, then you say that using overdrive will kill it.

My '85 camaro would look up in 3rd and 4th....never forced the tranny to stay in second long enough for it to lockup.

At any rate, keeping a 700R4 from locking up will not kill it. It will cause it to wear slightly faster, but it would take years of normal driving to notice a difference caused by the slightly higher trans fluid temps.

i meant to type "in OD w/o the TCC locked up"...not just "driving around in OD"
