You will probably need a Mallory 3 port regulator if your using the electric pump. Retails for around $80 through Jegs.

What is the part number for the regulator? I am in the process of converting my 396 to carb.

Why would someone turn a TPI to carb? Does it run faster?

Re: tbi to a carb help please!!!

im almost done my tbi to carb swap (LO3 - 355 carbed), i didnt have the cash for the mallory , so i just picked up a $25 holley mechanical reg, and i had a auto meter fuel pressure gage already , so im going to use that. might not be the best way, but ive heard from 2 different people that it works fine. and they are running 12's and 13's with this fuel set up on a stock pump. but i have a question about the fuel pump. will it still turn on with the car after the computer delete? or will i have to hook it up so it has a manual on/off switch in the car that ill have to turn on each time i wanna start up the motor?

The reason why my motor is being converted is because right now I don't have the money for the FAST system to tune it. I'm going with the victor jr efi intake and a demon 850 carb. So when I get the funds, converting back over will be easy.

TPI get better gas, but Carborated are generally faster, right?

the tank isnt different, the only difference in the fuel level sending unit (b/c i think carb'd third gens had a mechanical pump) and that alone is like 300 and some odd dollars...just for a sending unit! thats why i didnt switch to that.

plus an electric fuel pump doesnt put any drag on the motor like a mechanical one does.

Solidous_Snake-
i changed my car to carb b/c i wanted to go fast w/ spending an azzload of extra money... cheap horsepower is pretty much what i was after. in order for me to run my Vortec heads w/ that TPI,i would have to buy a special intake base for $300-$350 JUST to run the heads. then i would have to get it tuned for the cam im running...another $300-$400. so instead of pissing away almost a grand to run the setup i wanted,i switched it to carb and the only thing i lost was gas mileage...which i didnt care about b/c the car doesnt get driven alot anyway. my cars an 87 and only has 121k on it.

i sold my TPI and wireing harness on ebay and got enough money to buy my intake and carb off ebay, with money left over to the little things like fuel lines and fittings.

i went from a torquey L98,to a 400HP carb'd 350 .040 (357) that should run low 13's high 12's with traction and a 650 carb.

im basing those time off of a 94 GT stang i ran a few weeks ago w/ 3.73's,shorty headers,CAI,off road H-pipe,1 chamber flowmasters, short throw shifter and prob. some small things i forgot, but i beat him by 3.5 to 4 cars from a slow roll and we didnt race a full 1/4 mile.

hope that clears some things up
