Post T-5 Trans and QuadraJunk QUestions. 83 Camaro

My friend recently purchased an 83 Z with a carb. It has a T-5 trans and we have been working on it a lot. There is a sensor under the trans on the drivers side with two wires going to it. it is DEMOLISHED and I don't know what it is for. Since it came off the trans doesn't get all the power it should be getting... or so it seems. WE also tried replacing the old qudrajunk carb with a rebuilt quadrajet that we got for free and is in better shape but have NO idea how to tune it. I personally have an 88 TPI and don't mess with this crap.

WHere is a starting point to tune the carb that our engines come with and What is that sensor under the tranni??? UNtil this gets solved the car is ****ty ALL help is appreciated. Thanks guys. Kurt

The Q-jet is far from junk. What makes you think it is?? Anyway, That wire going to the tranny is most likely the reverse switch. When you put the shifter into reverse, the reverse lights come on Also dont even bother putting a NON CC Q-jet to replace the CC Q-jet without putting in a non CC distributor. You'll most likely get no vaccuum advance. Test the computer to make sure its not faulty. It could cause your computer controlled carb to run rich (default setting) and it will run like crap.

Question

What do you mean by non - CC Q- jet and CC Q-jet I know your talking about the carb but what is CC for? Also does anyone know how to start to tune that carb. I don't know where to start from like, screw everything in and then back them off how many turns. what screws and adjustments to look for ETC. If it runs crappy I won't know how to9 fix it the least bit and the Chiltons manual kind of sucks at explaining it. Thanks guys!!

Here is your explaination:
non-CC Q- jet = non Computer Controled Q-jet
CC Q-jet = Computer Controled Q-jet (you have this)

CC= big blue 2-wire plug on the top (computer controlled mixture solenoid).

non-CC= no big blue plug.

As stated above, you want to replace the computer controlled carb AND distributor at the same time or disappointing results will be experienced.

If you're wondering, a non-computer controlled HEI distributor is a bolt-in replacement for the conputer controlled one. All the plugs will even fit! (Except for the 4-wire computer connection at the back of the distributor, of course, which you will leave unplugged)
