T5 flywheel has the wrong clutch pattern. You need the conversion flywheel from Centerforce, part number 700100. It's a $300 part. When I swapped in my 6-speed it was the only one I could find for an early-model block. The 700110 will also work but it's slightly more expensive and about 10lbs heavier.

how can I get the flywheel? Do I get it through centerforce or do I go through a dealer? How do I go about contacting someone about this...
Thanks,
Adam

If you do have a modified 400 crank then you have to have the flywheel balanced to match the flexplate because the 400SBC is an externally balanced engine.

Not all 383's have 400 cranks though. Many aftermarket 383 cranks are internally balanced, and if this is the case then the 700100 is what you need.

If you have the 400 crank then get the 700107. You'll have to take it to a machine shop along with your old flexplate to get it balanced, which means a day or 2 more downtime when you swap the trans.
