Question Sway Bars

Who makes a good sway-bar kit? And which bars should I change... front or rear? or both? Also, what is a good-size sway-bar?

is there really that much difference in sway bars, they are all pretty much the same size and material, correct?

there is actually quite a bit of difference. diameter and hollow/solid make a huge difference.

i loved the way my old IROC handled. even with warn out shocks it cornered pretty nice. so iroc or 1le bars would be suitable on a budget.

but i now have BMR 32/21mm bars with poly bushings and endlinks on my 4th gen. and they made a HUGE difference with otherwise stock springs/shocks.

iroc, z28 are completely different then the 1-le bars.

you can find cheap z28(iroc) bars in junkyards or on the net. 1-le are usually hard to find and expensive.

Also check top-downsolutions.com - this guy has nice stuff as well, and at reasonable prices. He has the "wonderbar" new for $45 +shipping.

i have not used the new spohn bars, but i beleive they are a little stiffer than the 1le spec bars.

i run the 1le combo and love it. i know that alot of auto-x people like to run the 1le front bar, and 23mm IROC rear bar.

Is a 1 1/4" sway bar pretty good sized? How much bigger than my stock size is it? Will a IRCOC bar fit right into my Z-28? And this WonderBar... its the same thing as Anti-Sway bar... right?

I thoguht a sway bar was an anti sway bar, 1-1/4 should be approximately the same size as stock, maybe a tad thicker, I'm not sure ont he exact size, I know spohns are 1-5/16, the wodner bar is like a lower body brace, it connects the car together between the two sway bar mounts, it's supposed to help keep the front end tight.

the wonder bar is a steering box brace, it is there because thirdgens have a problem with the frame around the steering box cracking. it is there to support things and keep the frame from cracking. it does make a diffrence in steering feel and response, but isn't a 'handling' mod.

as for how big the bar is compared to stock, do you know what size you stock bar is? if you have the crappy softride suspension package bars, the IROC bars would be a nice upgrade, the 1les would be even better.

depending on the use of the car, and the springs you are using, the aftermarket bars may more sway bar than you want. when picking sway bars you want to match it with the spring combo you are runnign to maximize the effect, suspension are a package, to work the best, everything has to be matched.
