Surging at low speeds/gas smell
Surging at low speeds/gas smell
Hi evryone. I'm new at posting here but i've been reading Z28.com for a long time.......Loads of good info here, So my problem is this.....I have a 91 Z28 LB9 and i just recently had this problem... kinda rough idle and surging at cruising speed (to about 2000 rpms).and strong fuel smell at idle ........well thats when I notice it........ Here's what I replaced so far.... 02 sensor, IAC, TPS, new AC plugs, dist rotor/cap, dist. module, checked vaccuum lines for leaks, the one going to the egr was a little split.... replaced that, still have this problem.... Do you guys think it might be a bad FPR or Injector prob or possibly EGR?....... Thanks for any help
I just fixed my fuel smell problem. I would pull into the garage, shut the car off and the garage would fill up with fumes to the point you couldn't go in there. Computer was giving a code 32 (egr) I did all of what you did, in the end I replaced the injectors - problem gone. The injectors were full of sh*t causing a lean condition.. I inspected 1 injector and found it. Very frustrating. Good luck
Fuel smell? Not good. Take out your FPR line and see if you can smell gas. If so, you need to confirm it by hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and cycle the pump then shut it off and see if the fuel pressure drops. If it does, you have a shot regulator.
Another thing is, assuming that your fuel rails are not leaking, you need to take the injectors out. Go to a tech school that has the equipment to cycle injectors and see if the spray pattern is good or not. If it is bad, send it out to be cleaned or get new ones depending on what mods are planned for the future. With good injectors, you would need to change all the O rings at the end of the injectors because they seal the injectors into the manifold. If they leak and give that gas smell, you can bet that air is going past them and that would be bad for the car. While you are at it, change the O rings in the fuel rail.

Thanks for the replies you guys, I am thinking thats what I need to do.because my car has over100k miles but runs good otherwise...... Probly buy a new set of AC injectors and seals. I Will post again w/results.
