Supercharged 305

I was looking on eBay a few months ago and seen a supercharger for a 305 TBI I didn't think you could supercharge a TBI, but if you can what all would you need and how much would it cost? Also, how much horsepower would I gain from it?

it is the same style as a centrifugal supercharger for a carb, but you have to keep the boost down cuz those tbi are really weak

Any stock 3rd gen bottem end you will have to keep the boost down. Expect to see somwere around 100hp from the supercharger.

I've not heard any major stories about it working well for anyone
There is at least one person over at thirdgen.org with a setup
although he has advised people against trying it

There is a moderator on this site that has a supercharged 305. I think he has had good luck with it.

tbi

you otta just swap to tpi, you'll make more power, and get better mileage just from that. and since you have a third gen car, everything would bolt right up, w/no probs. i have a fully ported tpi intake setup, with lt-1 t-body, tpis airfoil, lt-1 24lb injectors, egr block-off, polished fuel rail, all new sensors, stock computer, and a brand new wahlbro in-line fuel pump for sale. i was going to swap it into my 70 camaro, but i ran out of money. now i need cash to pay for school, i'll sell the whole setup for 550.00 plus ship. i have pics. if you're interested, let me know chevysrule94@netzero.com

Willie, a moderator on www.thirdgen.org and a regular on this forum, has supercharged his Camaro 305 and runs close to 12 secs flat. It's his daily driver too, and he lives in Arizona, to boot! His is probably the finest Camaro I've ever seen.

Period.

chevysrule, what all has to be changed out in the swap? Do you have everything I would need? Also, how long are you planning on holding the TPI setup b/c I don't have enough money to get it now?

tpi

the only thing i dont have that you would need is a wiring harness, wich you could get from a junkyard or painless wiring makes a harness for 289.00 from jeg's. everything would bolt right up. and since i have an in-line pump, you wouldnt have to drop your fuel tank. it wont be that hard since 3rd gens came with tpi. if you are really interested, i will hang on to it for you. email me at chevysrule94@netzero.com

HEY...do not beat on the TBI...they are better on mods in the long run...because your TPI will limit RPM.... (though awesome with torque)

I have seen a mid 13 second 91 RS with TBI...

ANYTHING can be made to run fast.... you just need the time ...money.... and information to get it there.....

tpi

yeah, but my tpi is fully ported, top and bottom. i spent over 20 hrs on it. it also has a an lt-1 t-body w/tpis airfoil. from bolting this set-up on you'll probably gain 25 to 35 hp and definitly get better gas mileage. and on the rpm thing, my friend has a 88 or 89 gta, he built a 600 hp 400sbc, and used the stock computer and stock t-body w/lt-1 injectors. the only thing he did was ported the bottom half of the intake. he runs 11.60's.
