STUPID AUTO ZONE KID!!! needa belt size

So i finally got ridd of my air smog pump and a bunch of other useless crap (hoses and stuff). Any way I go into autozone and tell the kid i need a new belt and say clearly 3x THIS IS NOT THE STOCK BELT. I need a belt that has 6 ribs and is 96.8 inch long. dayco part # 968k6 he tells me he can't find it. i guess they dont got dayco and the boxs dont have sizes marked. Any way this kids comes back tells me he measured this one and says its 96 inchs long. I ask him clearly... THIS ISN'T the stock belt size on your computer correct, he says no its a diffrent one. get the bitch home and go figure its the same ficken size as my old 1. does any1 know what the gatorback belt size is that i would need???

Ask them for the belt catalog and look it up for yourself, or go to napa and do the same. If they let you pick your own, you can go in the back and get it yourself. Just ask them if you can pick your own from the back.

Take your car and tools needed to remove the belt to autozone.Take the belt they give you outside and put it on.If its too small or big just take it back inside and get another until you get it right.Thats what i did and they dont mind taking the belts back.Good luck.

Re: STUPID AUTO ZONE KID!!! needa belt size

most size increments are in half inches
i doubt anyone would find a 968k6 unless its dayco but your belt tensioner should be able to compensate for more than a half inch maybe a 965k6 or a 960k6

by the way where did u get the information that u need a 96.8 inch belt?

Just go to a different parts store. FWIW, I know for a fact that Advance Auto sells 968K6 belts, that's where I got mine from. I couldn't find any serpentine belt part number cross references online, but there's probably one out there somewhere.

same difference

the 50 is unique to the manf
the 6 is an indication of the number of ribs and
0968 is the length

a goodyear gatorback belt uses similar
4060968
i dont need to explain that one do i?

belt sizes are easy to understand and i personally feel its easier to describe with 968k6

Unless the parts store nerd has only been working there a few days they should understand the PNs of each belt manuf. Just tell them you need a 6 rib 96.8" belt.

I think we have at least 4 in stock at my store all the time. Pretty common.

Dayco is a better belt but the same thing in a Drive-rite is a 5060968DR
