Stock-ish L98 Auto times/mph?

Hey guys, I've searched my @ss off, but havent found much...

What would a mostly stock L98 Firebird (with just a K&N and a Blowmaster muffler) run at the track? Looking for ET and mph...

If anyone has times/mph's from their mostly stock L98 (or from when it was mostly stock), post 'em up!

Thanks guys

Well, they have about 230 hp, and 300lb's.. so I would imagine quite nice, actually.

Re: Stock-ish L98 Auto times/mph?

It depends on the year L98. The early L98's will run low 15's to high 14's depending on driver and conditions. And this is a factory stock 3500 lb car we are talking about. Newer ones, like the '91-'92 for example will run mid to low 14's factory stock. My car, a 1988 GTA with the L98 and 700R4 went 14.9's to 15.1's, and mid to low 90's mph, depending on the conditions of that day. I bought it 6 years ago and it was completely stock except for a B&M shift kit. It had 97,000 km's (Yes I'm Canadian!!!) when I bought it.

I then ported the MAF, Plenum, runners, and heads. Did a valve job on the heads, and added a Flowmaster 80 series muffler with a 2.5" intermidiate pipe and went 14.3's at 98mph. And all of this was done on street tires so I had to peddle it off the line to aviod tire spin. I have no doubt that if I had stayed with my original plan I would have easily run high 13's with just the addition of a set of sticky tires. But I got gready that winter and built a Minirammed 383 stroker!!

My car is a 91 z28, 350 auto with 3.23s out back. Its stock except for k&ns and a cat-back and last time it was run it had 162,xxx miles on it. Ran consistant 14.40s all night at 97-99mph with the best run being a 14.41 @ 98.7. A few years ago I had a 92, basicly the same car, same mods, but with about 80,xxx miles on it and it made several passes in the 14.20s @ 99 to 100 mph. Both cars on regular radials.

95redvert and Colin91Z are on the money! My car ran 14.4's @ 95-96 MPH with K&N's and a hack job cat-back with 140,000 miles. My best is in the sig. Currently has 193,000 miles, still running factory cam, heads, runners, base and PROM. No real major mods besides SLP 1 3/4" shorty headers, SLP Loudmouth with Dynomax bullet instead of resonator, March underdrive pulleys, Accel 24# injectors, JET fan switch and matching thermostat, Nitto 315/35/17 Drag Radials and that's about it.

Mine ran 14.3@ 97mph bone stock with the removal of the rear seats and interior. Not that that weighs a whole lot anyway. My car weighs 3400 pounds in full street trim with complete stereo. Its also a t-top car. She had the stock 2.77 rear ratio in at the time. I've been having trouble getting similar times lately, they have not been preping the tracks well. But low 14's will be the consensus.

I had an 89 Formula 350 twin cat w/3.27's and those mods, plus a chip. Best time I got out of it was a 15 flat at 91. But that was at our local 4,000 ft altitude track. Corrected, about 14.3. At the time it had about 70k on it.

My nephew ended up with the car, put in fresh injectors, complete tune up, re-installed stock chip. So at that time only mods were K&N and Flowmaster. He got a 14.9 out of it. It had >100k at the time.

It's only a 5HP difference. There's a 91 GTA that I hang with at the track. Pretty much the same combo as me. He's still running the factory exhaust manifolds but has the SLP Runners and a homemade CAI. His best time is a 13.5 @ 100. I asked him what his best time stock was and he ran a 14.3 @ 95.

Dude, you need some freaken drag radials! You have mph that could translate to high 13's! What was your 60' times on those runs? reaction times? That's pretty impressive for a mostly stock TPI. I wonder if my car with 150k miles on it could pull of those times...

Back to topic, in 87 when they came out with the L98 and tested it, I believe it went 14.7@95mph. The newer SD cars (90-92 TPI) could probably dip into the 14.2-14.5 range depending on mods, conditions, driver, etc.

Re: Stock-ish L98 Auto times/mph?

I have a 90' IROC auto with the l98 and 3.42's out back and it is suppose to run mid 14's. I think for my actual year i found on the internet that from the factory they run 14.4's with like a 5.8 0-60. I have never actually been to the track with mine though so i am not sure what mine would run personally, but i hope to find out
