The 5.7 TPI was rated at 220 HP in the Camaro and about 10 HP LESS in the Firebird TA due the retriction of the air intake with the low hood. The Firebirds always had this problem because of the air intake, so some of the listed numbers will be incorrect.

Not with the retrictive air intake system. Unless Ponitac just forgot about it and said everything is equal between both versions now. Just compare the two, Carmaro/Firebird TPI intakes and you judge which one you want???

Stock rating for an 89 L98 twin cat is 240. And it is capable of making at least that much. My daily driver 89 Formula 350 twin cat ran a best 15 flat at our local 4,100 ft altitude track. Corrects to about a 14.3 at sea level. Modifications: Hypertech chip, K&N, Flowmaster. A loaded GTA would weigh more, so mid/high 14's would be expected.

If GM (quoted HP for the Firebird) is correct. Then the Air Intake systems between the Camaro/Firebird TPI did not make a difference as reported in earlier model years.
