Stepnose of flatnose

I got a friend looking at a custom cam for a 350 GM crate motor. It is a 330 hp/ 380 tq motor PN 12486041.

He needs to know if it needs a step nose or a flat nose cam. What are the differences.

Re: Stepnose of flatnose

I think it boils down to retro or stock roller. His motor comes with a flat tappet cam, so I think he is just going to run a flat tappet cam to save some money. The conversion isnt cheap and im not sure if it is worth the money.
