thinking of an ss hood for the car to lighten some weight....what do you guys think? i really love my stock hood but it's very heavy and i wouldn't mind a slight change.

Who makes it? I'm not sure what one you mean, but make sure it has enough underside bracing.
I was fortunate( )enough to witness a cheap glass hood fly off in a street race. The poor Honda Accord took some helacious collateral damage!
But I want one for mine when money allows..

I think it would help somewhat......I'm planning on gettin one for mine in the next year or two......and put the 25th anniversary stripes on it......like the 30th anniversary stripes are on the '97 Super Sports

SS hoods rock!

And on your car, with that color/wheel combo It'd be sweet.

ewww i dont like the SS hood and i dont think it would look right on your car. I agree that the stock hoods are way too heavy, this is why im thinking if money ever allowed i would just get a fiberglass copy made of my stock iroc hood and put in functional louvers....thatd be sick.

yeah i'm not really looking to loose "race" weight. just more or less the weight of the hood when working on the car. it gets old dealing with the heavy awkward hood.

so you think it would look alright? i plan to keep the other one to switch once in awhile any how but it would be nice to have a change.

just saw your post doug791, i'm not sure why you would think it's ugly but i certainly can appreciate the idea which is how i used to be quite awhile back. i love my stock hood and if money wasn't an object then yes it would be redone today in the lightest material possible but your looking at prices upward of 1200 just to have a stock looking hood that's a few pounds heavier. not to mention for my color i'm looking at three times the normal price to paint unlike those with solid colors so 2500 for a stock lightweight hood isn't practicle.

harwood

Ive got a harwood 3 inch crowl induction. its functional, 41 pounds lighter and just as nice underneath as the top side is. it took 40 hrs to fit resin and install. its a bolt on, so we used 1983 camaro pace car hood struts[still avaliable] , these cars came with a abs plastic hood, so the valving is just about perfect. if you buy a hood ,buy the best one you can afford your body guy will thank you. Ill post pic`s in readers rides if im ever able to log back on

Why do i think its ugly....it could be as simple as i just dont like the look....could boil down to the fact you have a big stupid looking v shaped scoop on the hood thats doing a whole lot of nothing....could be the fact that everyone else seems to love them and i tend to stay away from main stream....take your pick really

I understand not being able to afford makeing a hood it was just an idea because its something i would like to do some day. But PERSONALLY as it stands theres no aftermarket hoods that look descent or would serve a function on my efi car (love cowls, but not if theyre just for show) so ill stick with my over weight stock hood.

I have the SS hood on my Iroc and very much like the look. American Sports Car Design makes it and I thik its a natural for the car. The 4th gen have them, the 2nd gen has a similar form of one. I put it on and since my car is white I applies the 97 Hugger stripes just to be different and to break all the white up. The only draw back is no air box avail. to make it functional so either I'm going to build one from scratch or get the 96-97 box and modify it slightly. You can see my car on http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/ryanrabbie
