Speedometer Problem

As some may know, I did the v6 v8 swap in my 87 camaro, and put a turbo 350 transmission in it. The other day, I was test driving it and my speedometer needle just drops and stops working. I suppose it's the speedometer cable, but does anyone know if the speedometers in 87s were electronic or mechanical, and if there was something that I needed to do moving from the TH700 to the Turbo 350 concerning the speedometer cable? That's the only thing I can think of...it's worked fine ever since I had the car. If it is the speedometer cable, any help would be appreciated on how to change that...running a cable through the dash and hooking a gauge up to it seems very annoying to say the least, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Speedometer Problem

In 87, the Camaro had a cable driven speedometer. They switched to electric in 90. The Firebird changed to it in 87.

Re: Speedometer Problem

I found the problem. The speedo cable didn't break, the spring clip holding the drive gear on the tranny tail broke and the gear moved. Simple
