Source for replacement parts?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at picking up a 91 Z28 with the a 350 TBI (aftermarket crate motor) for my daughter as a daily driver. the engine has 3k on it and the tranny was rebuilt recently. My last 3rd gen was my first car, an 84 Z28 HO so I am out of the loop on these cars. I've been much more involved with the 4th gens and Vettes since then. Anyway I'm going ot have this car looked at by a shop I trust for the large mechanical stuff. I have found a number of little things that need fixing (door lock/ unlock buttons on both doors, power mirror buttons fog lights), but overall the car looks to be in pretty good shape considering the year. I would like to replace the weather stripping on the doors and a couple of the interior trim pieces. Do I have to source the parts at a junkyard or can I find them being remanufactured new by aftermarket companies? Thanks for any help.

Most if not all the parts you listed have been discontinued from GM. The weather strip can be found at most Camaro restoration parts houses. The switches you will have better luck on Ebay. Be prepared to spend a small fortune on the switches. FYI GM is discontinuing the 4th gen switches starting this year.

Thanks for the input. When you say restoration parts houses are you talking about places like Year One? Can you list some others?

My guess on the switches not working isn't so much the switch itslef being bad but a short somewhere in the door where water has been getting in over the years. The weather stripping on the doors looks pretty bad.

Classic industries and hawks are great places, hawks tend to have a little more third gen stuff. Also if you get desperate we have a, f-body only salvage yard here in okc, shoot me a pm and i can check with them on some parts. Always glad to help.

I miss my 91 z .

Problem, danger!! The 90-92 Z28's did NOT come with TBI engines, they have TPI engines. The TBI's have a round air cleaner on top like a carb and only come on RS's of that year. The TPI has 8 individual runners with an all aluminum intake. The TPI only comes on Z28's. Also, the 91-92 Z28's have a high-rise spoiler on the back, while the RS's have a flat spoiler on the rear decklid.

Aftermarket block, yes, but a '91 Z28 would come with TPI and no intelligent person would remove that and put in a TBI engine. I'm guessing its an RS with Z28 badges, or its a RS with RS badges and the seller is clueless.

Yeah it was an RS with the 305 and TBI. Dealer/ previous owner has put the hood, spoiler, badges on and was selling as a Z. Anyway I ran away from that car. Ended up picking up a 91 RS with the 305, 5-speed, t-tops etc... Don't know a whole lot about these cars and I'll be posting for help and answers.

Dont forget to check the supporting vendors of this website for parts. I got most everything I needed from either supporting vendors of this website, or from the vendors that support www.thirdgen.org, or else from Thunder Racing, Summit, Jegs.

Hawk's third-gen resource is a good place to check. In terms of graphics, look to Phoenix Graphics, which is I think, a supporter of http://www.thirdgen.org It is there, at that website where you will find most everything you need.
