Somebody please back me up when I say that L98's had 245 hp?
Somebody please back me up when I say that L98's had 245 hp?
Somebody in the Track Kills section is claiming that NO 3rd gen EVER put down 245hp and 340lb's of torque. He is asking for a dyno-slip, but why the HELL would I have a dyno slip saved on my computer? Can anyone here help me out?
Re: Somebody please back me up when I say that L98's had 245 hp?
The factory rating for the L98 was 245hp with 345 ftlbs of torque.
.... but only from 1990 thru 1992. The rating was lowest in 1987 at 225hp when it was introduced. It was 230hp from 1988 & 1989.

That is what i have heard. Some guy is trying to tell me that they only dyno at 200-215hp, and like 380lb's (I am talking about a '92)

That seems realistic. Take 15 percent drivetrain loss and that 245hp at the crank becomes ~210 at the wheels. The factory ratings are at the crank with certain accessories (I'm not sure which) running.

88's and 89's had 235hp in the 350. In 89 you could get the dual cat option though which upped it to 245hp. 90-92 had 255hp.

According to the Camaro White Book, the 1988 - 89 350 TPI was rated at 230hp. I do not know if this spec holds true for Firebirds. In 1989, the dual cat option upped this to 240hp.
The 1990-92 was never rated any higher than 245hp. Ken, can you cite the reference where you get your figures?

When my '87 IROCZ with an L98 TPI engine was stock, it would not even dyno at 200, I think it dynoed at 185RWHp.
Willie is correct about his numbers above.
