Not sure if anyone has done this or not, but I managed to remove the smog pump and ac compressor (along with their 50 lbs and unknown rolling resistance) from my 89 l98. It takes a shorter serptantine, but it does work. the only snag is the return hose to the radiator rubs on the belt. I'm still looking for an elegant solution, but I have it working now.
The good news is, the only place where the serpantine does not match the pulley (rib to rib, smooth to smooth) is on the tensioner.
I'm hoping for high 13's.

If you have to go through the trouble of designing a new tensioner, you might want to think about moving your Alt. down to where the smog was. You would have to make a bracket but then you would have more room up top. Just a idea
