Smog Pump

I've been looking into removing my smog pump since I got rid of all the AIR equiptment so far, however, I am having a bit of trouble with one of the articles on Thirdgen.org. This one to be exact It goes over the belt routing of the stock configuration, and then after the pump has been taken off. But it seems like the description is wrong and doesnt follow the diagram.

It says: The stock setup in a clockwise manner: Tensioner, over the alternator, down to the power steering pump, under the crank, under and over the water pump, back to the ac compressor.

He says, over the alternator down to the power steering pump...however, in the "after" picture, the pump he described as the power steering pump is now missing, which leads me to believe it was actually the smog pump.

Can one of you guys clear up where exactly the smog pump is, because this article has me confused.

Be a real guy and stop reading the words and just look at the pictures.

Seriously, the pics are right. Looking at the engine as if you were standing in front of the car, the smog pump was on the left in the whole below the A/C compressor.

Are you implying that real men can't read? Anyhow, I was lead to believe that the picture was a before and after picture, and the fact that the power steering pump is gone in the second picture threw me off. There is no smog pump in each picture, but the routings are different in each, IMO the article would be better if there was a stock before picture, and an after picture with just the smog pump removed.

Not at all. I read most of the day, and most of what I do is medical and pharmaceuticals, so not at all. I know that I typically just look at the pics and interpret my own stuff for non-stock car stuff.

You are right. The top pic is correct. Ignore the bottom.

Better yet, here is a good diagram I got from http://sethirdgen.org/serpentine.htm

Re: Smog Pump

Yea, but the other way only costs a belt, and one less pulley bearing to wear out. My tensioner pulley lasted 40k in my Z, and I guess that is pretty good.
