Smells like gas
I've got an 87 GTA with an 88 350, after I have been driving for about 5 minutes it starts to smell like gas. A new fuel pump and gas tank were put in about a week ago. Is that why it smells so strong or...........? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
You might be running a little rich for the car since those were just replaced. If you have a pressure guage I would hook it up and see where you are at. I think that you need to be around 37psi stock +-3. Oh wait I am assuming that it is a TPI so if it isnt I am sorry but I dont know squat about carbs.
I have the same problem with my '89 305 TBI. I tightened the rubber hose on the vapor pressure regulator and that helped. I still get a slight gas odor espcially on a hot day. The vapor pressure regulator is just a small plastic part that sits next to the fuel lines above the rear axle. At least it is that way on my '89. I think I'm going to try replacing it and see if that helps, it costs about $25 from GM. Does anyone have a better idea?
