think ur car had an aftermarket alarm or something on it before? thats what it sounds like to me,b/c i know its not factory. usually i thought alarm lights were red but who knows these days. look up under the dash around the fuse panel and see if there are any loose, broken,or hanging taped off wires,if u see some thats prob. from the alarm it had.

That light IS stock. My RS has it. I don't know what it's for either, to my knowledge it has never worked. I didn't even know it was there until I pulled up the dash pad (to put Pioneer speakers in) and saw the wires for it.

i do have a security system, but there is like black plastic around the light that has that texture of the dash, thats why i figured it was stock. I have no clue what it is for either. It does turn on when i turn my lights on. I noticed it because i am looking for a new spot to mount my tach, and was looking for a spot to put an unoticable hole. then i saw the light and i was confused, looked like a hidden camera or something. And my security device is a little magnet thing you have to stick on the dash, I heard that its a factory security thing, but I'm not sure.
thanks!

I am not really that familiar with the interiors of camaros (yeah I know, sorry), but in my car, that light is right above the HVAC and radio placement. It is there to light up the heater/AC and radio area at night. Dont know if its the same.

Here's a thought for you. On my firebird there were 3 sets of wires. One was for fog lights, the other was for the hatch release and yet another was for the rear defroster. My point? I did not have fog lights. I added fog lights by changing the strip to a 3 hole one, puting the fog light switch, inserting the fog light relay. I also saw that the wire harness coming thru the firewall did not hook onto anything in the harness on the other side. I hooled a wire to it and connected it to fog lights which work like stock units do. Bottom line is I suspect that the car is wired up for just about every option and they hook the switches and relays when they need to.

Close, but it was not to light the heater/radio,it was GM's feeble atempt to light the ASH TRAY,earlier modles had a fiber optic runnig from the shifter light. It was two years before I found mine ,the little clear lens was messed-up and the light wouldn't shine through it.

what do you mean "Don't touch that light" ?
could it break something?
It seems too far away and too small to make light for anything in the dash, like the cigarette lighter. But like you said, it may have been a poor attempt. I was just wondering because it seems like a small useless little light that is hidden for no reason.

In the dark it puts out just enough light to see the ash tray,if you look it lines up with it. My light is white, and maybe brighter so it makes more light. I had to replace it once and had to get it at the dealer, but they may sell them in the part stores now. Think ACE is messin' with ya,it IS just a small light bulb and nothing else,so if it makes you happy go ahead and mess with it.
