Slow TBI
Here's the deal guys, I have a 91 305 TBI, the car looks great, but I hate the speed, It dosnt feel any thing like a v8, possibly not even a 4 cylinder. I have a 3 gear transmission, could this be why my car is so slow, if not what can I do to speed it up, what do yall sugest, fix it up or buy a 350?
3 gear tranny? you should have a 700r4 behind that if it is an auto.
the 305tbi(LO3) was not qa great performer off teh factory floor. it can however be corrected fairly easily and not very expensively.
teh best bang for the buck and SOTP gain you can get is a posi and soem gears. a lot of guys run 3.73's and knock off as much as 5 tenths at the track. the stock 2.73one legger really holds the car back.
for some cheap and free mods you can go to www.thirdgen.org and check out the tech articles. teh ultimate tbi mods and diy afpr can give you a noticable gain for hardly any money and just a bit of time invested.
the next big thing you will want is an exhaust system. a full exhaust is always best with a good set of headers and a 3inch cat and cat back. if you don't want to spring for a complete header set you cna have your local exhaust shop make a good y-pipe up for you. the stock y-pipe comes together at a 90degree angle and uses small tubing. a 2-3inch into 1-3inch y-pipe will make a great gain in mid and top end power as well as teh tone of the exhaust.
if you fell like going faster there are a lot more inexpensive things that can be done, just check out teh tbi board at thirdgen.org.
