i bought the car, a 1990 camaro v6 and dressed it up and all but i miss the REAL rumble of a v8, not to mention the power and all the extra mods that don't exist and don't really help the 6's. is there any engine i can swap without having to change out the trans as well, or am i looking at a complete change-over?

 

auto trans or 5spd?
\A mild 350 will take to a 700R4 just fine, but i do believe there is a different between the 6 and 8 cyl models. a 5spd would not last long with a 350, even built. better off with a 6spd for this app. just my .02 cents!

The transmission would be the least of your problems in your planed engine swap. That is unless you have in mind a 400 + RWHP engine.

 

It depends on how beaten the trans you have now is. If its already lived a hammered life an 8 cyl will thrash it quickly. If its still strong, you will no problem like 87DJP2001 said unless you are planning some wild 400+ hp monster.

Change over Kits??? No such thing.....Better read up and do some research on SBC engine swap into a 3rd Gen car.
